Want to put some Luck of the Irish in your St. Patty's Day cakes? Here are some magically delicious ideas.

If you are celebrating a birthday in your family on March 17 this year, or just having a fun St. Patrick's Day party celebration, you will want to create a cute, yummy dessert for your lucky guests. Here are some cakes and other desserts to consider for your Irish bash.

Consider Outsourcing

Before you take on the challenge of creating the perfect Irish dessert for St. Patrick's Day, consider contacting your local bakery. Often these pros have special cake or cupcake pans for the holiday, not to mention adorable decorations plus that super fancy handwriting. Just like you get an auto repair professional to fix your car and a dentist to fix your teeth, sometimes it's easiest to let the pros handle your desserts, too! Also, there are now lots of online bakeries that can specially ship your holiday party goodies.

Want to do it yourself? Here are some ideas.

Shamrock Cake

Probably the easiest way to create a St. Patrick's Day cake is to look for a shamrock-shaped cake pan in the cake section of your grocery store or craft store. Green icing, rainbow funfetti cake mix and perhaps some rainbow airheads to create a rainbow across the shamrock, and you're done. Simple, easy, quick. Can't find the funfetti cake mix? Simply add rainbow sprinkles to any cake mix for a rainbow cake effect.

Leprechaun Hat Cupcakes

Shown in the picture, these Leprechaun Hat Cupcakes are adorable and delicious. They're from www.cakekarma.com in New York City, but it would be easy enough to make these on your own with some green fondant, and some rainbow funfetti cake mix or rainbow sprinkles in any cake mix.

Rainbow CupcakesDo a Google image search for rainbow cupcakes- there are some adorable ones that will inspire you! The basic concept is this: bake cupcakes using funfetti cake mix or any flavor with rainbow sprinkles added to the mix before baking. Ice cupcakes with green icing (found in store, or add a few drops of green food coloring into white icing). Create a 3-D arched rainbow using Rainbow Airheads candy. Add gold coins on and around the cupcakes. Adorable and easy!

Other ideas to consider for a St. Patrick's Day cake? A simple horseshoe shaped cake, a rainbow-shaped cake with different colored icings, or a cake shaped like a leprechaun hat using green fondant to create a 'hat brim' with a black band and gold buckle made of icing.

Be creative and you will have fun creating a magically delicious dessert for St. Patty's Day! Luck o' the Irish to ye!
